Watch Don Dukun only if you’re a completionist of Indonesian horror or need background noise on a rainy night. Otherwise, seek out Impetigore or Satan’s Slaves for superior versions of the same concept.
The film follows a skeptical journalist investigating a series of ritualistic murders in a remote Javanese village. The locals blame a mysterious “Don Dukun,” a shaman who allegedly trades in black magic for wealth. As the journalist digs deeper, he discovers that the real horror might not be ghosts, but the greed of men hiding behind supernatural masks.
Don Dukun tries to blend supernatural horror with crime thriller elements, but ends up being a familiar ride saved only by its atmospheric visuals.
