welcome aboard

Ships of Hagoth is a digital-first literary magazine featuring creative nonfiction and theoretical essays by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Where other LDS-centric publications often look inward at the LDS tradition, we seek literary works that look outward through the curious, charitable lens of faith.

In the GTA: San Andreas speedrunning and challenge community, the Golden Pen is not a standard in-game item. Instead, it refers to a specific, high-stakes mission sequence and save strategy used primarily in Any% speedruns and Low% challenge runs .

If you are looking for a or trainer called “Golden Pen” (e.g., a cheat tool to spawn a golden pen weapon), that is a fan-made creation and not part of the original game or official speedrun terminology. The above is the authentic speedrunning definition.

Would you like a visual map of the Border Crossing route or the exact frame-perfect fence clip input sequence?

The name comes from the mission — where you steal a rhyme book (pen in hand, metaphorically) — and the later mission “Management Issues” (involving a “golden” opportunity to kill a key target). The “setup” refers to the precise sequence of actions, glitches, and route planning required to complete these missions in the most efficient way possible.

IONS

We are hoping—for “one must needs hope”—for creative nonfiction, theoretical essays, and craft essays that seek radical new ways to explore and express theological ideas; that are, like Hagoth, “exceedingly curious.”

We favor creative nonfiction that can trace its lineage back to Michel de Montaigne. Whether narrative, analytical, or devotional, these essays lean ruminative, conversational, meandering, impressionistic, and are reluctant to wax didactic.

As for theoretical essays: we welcome work that playfully and charitably explores the wide world of arts & letters—especially works created from differing religious, non-religious, and even irreligious perspectives—through the peculiar lens of a Latter-day Saint.

We read and publish submissions as quickly as possible, and accept simultaneous submissions.
