(nervous laugh) : "So… a little touch-up paint, a new fender, maybe an exhaust that doesn't sound like a dying raccoon—good as new, right?"

Visuals of the guardrail-less cliff edge. The dub voiceover echoes.

: "That’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever said. And you once tried to race a minivan." CLOSING NARRATION (DUB EPILOGUE STYLE): "The Eight-Six sleeps in steel and shadow. But on the mountain, the gutter still glistens with rain and regret. Takumi will return to that corner. Not because he wants to. But because the night… always asks for a rematch." PREVIEW FOR EPISODE 22:

(calm, smoky voice) : "You think the car lost? No. You drove it like you were afraid of breaking it. Tomorrow… we fix that. Hand me the 10,000-yen socket."

(cocky, reverb effect) : "The white of your Eight-Six… it’s just primer for my red of revolution."

: "He’s not faster. The road is lying to me. It’s pulling me into the gutter. Into the dark."

Takumi doesn’t answer. He runs a finger over a deep gash in the quarter panel.

(rubbing his temples) : "I’ve seen that corner a thousand times. Takumi took the inside line. The wet inside line. That’s not a mistake. That’s… a superstition."

(slamming his fist) : "So we un-believe him! We take him to the mountain, blindfold him, and just yell 'DRIFT!' until he stops being a baby!"

SFX: Engine revving, a new, deeper growl.

After his devastating loss to Emperor’s EVO III, Takumi Fujiwara is a ghost behind the wheel. K.T. (voiced with gravely concern) finds Takumi staring at the wrecked Panda Trueno in Bunta’s garage. The Eight-Six is alive, barely, but its soul feels gone. Meanwhile, Ryosuke Takahashi watches the race footage on a laptop, his sharp whisper cutting through the silence: “He didn’t lose to the car. He lost to his own doubt.”

Iketani gives him a long, tired stare.

Kenji, K.T., and Iketani huddle around a greasy table.
