Finn muted Van der Heijden’s earpiece. Then he unmuted the room’s microphone—the one he’d installed to record proctors, but never used.

Finn grabbed his coat, Lars’s photo, and a thumb drive with every transaction, every client, every backdoor he’d ever built. Outside, the rain had finally stopped. The IJsselmeer was still as glass.

His phone buzzed. Unknown number.

She wasn’t looking at the proctors. She was looking up. Directly into the lens.

“Meneer Van der Heijden,” he said, loud enough for the proctor to hear, “this is Finn de Vries from Vaarbewijs4all. You’re being fed answers. I’m ending this now. Tell the exam supervisor everything, or I will.”

“Who is this?”

“Red right returning,” Finn said, calm as a harbor master. “Answer A.”

And it sounded like a second chance.

He closed his laptop. The woman in the raincoat was gone from the security feed. But his phone buzzed one last time. Vaarbewijs4all

Then Finn’s screen flickered.

Finn’s throat went dry. Van der Heijden was babbling about a crossing situation question. Finn ignored him.
