Kai went pale. “That’s not possible.”
The Commander leaned forward. “We’re activating the Covert Action ring. We’re going to find her stronghold. But first, Echo Unit—you need to break her pattern. Do something she can’t predict.”
“Echo Lead, we’ve confirmed the data tap. ADVENT is running a black-site psi-training facility in the lower caverns. But there’s something else. The energy signature matches… a Chosen. We think it’s the Assassin. Get the tap, get out. Do not engage her directly.”

“Don’t thank me yet, kid. We’re probably going to die. But we’re going to die confusing her.” The operation was called Lazarus . It was a three-part Covert Action: first, a Reaper scout to map the city center; second, a decoy strike on a power relay to draw ADVENT forces; third, Echo Unit going in silent during the chaos.
Sparrow sat in the corner, cleaning her rifle.
Kai’s eyes glistened. “Captain—” Kai went pale
Kai’s eyes went wide. He fired. The bullet passed through her hood and struck the far wall.
“Data tap acquired,” Fix yelled, Pascal already interfacing. “Downloading… eighty percent… ninety—got it! Pull pull pull!”
Kai sliced the lock. “Ren. It’s me.” We’re going to find her stronghold
“The boy speaks.” The Assassin materialized directly in front of him, close enough to kiss. Her mask tilted. “You run because you’re afraid of standing still. The last Ranger stood still for one second. It took him three seconds to die.”
“I got better. Now move.”
Sparrow stepped forward. “No.”
