Offline SCN coding is powerful for older Mercedes models (pre-2018) and non-emission related retrofits , but it is not a complete replacement for the official online process. For professional repair with legal traceability, online SCN coding via Xentry is mandatory.

Offline SCN coding is typically used for development, research, or repair in areas without internet access. For legal vehicle roadworthiness and warranty compliance, online coding via Xentry Passthru is required by Mercedes-Benz. SCN (Software Change Number) coding is the process of writing vehicle-specific configuration data (variant coding) and flashing firmware to control units (ECUs).
